Note: the contents of this page as well as those which precede and follow, must be read as a continuation and/or overlap in order that the continuity about a relationship to/with the dichotomous arrangement of the idea that one could possibly talk seriously about peace from a different perspective as well as the typical dichotomous assignment of Artificial Intelligence (such as the usage of zeros and ones used in computer programming) ... will not be lost (such as war being frequently used to describe an absence of peace and vice-versa). However, if your mind is prone to being distracted by timed or untimed commercialization (such as that seen in various types of American-based television, radio, news media and magazine publishing... not to mention the average classroom which carries over into the everyday workplace), you may be unable to sustain prolonged exposures to divergent ideas about a singular topic without becoming confused, unless the information is provided in a very simplistic manner.

Let's face it, humanity has a lousy definition, accompanying practice, and analysis of peace.



In our examination of the Peace/War (conflict) dynamic which gives us the impression that humanity is "spinning its wheels" because of the recurring pendulum swing between conflict and periods with a relative absence there are; the dual mindset is being perceived to be an article of the human mind's attempt to persist in the former realizations related to more simplistic references such as hot/cold, right/wrong, weak/strong, smart/dumb, rich/poor, etc... If the recurrence of the Peace/War (conflict) dichotomy is found to be but another inclination to perpetuate an old mentality which is triggered by environmental events which cause human physiology to respond in a two-patterned way; the realization that there are other ways of organizing the world (such as patterns-of-three for example), likewise suggests that humans are capable of moving beyond the old dichotomy... maybe.

The presumed duality of the wave/particle "structure" of electromagnetic radiation discovered by using a two-slit experiment may not have been found if a one-slit experiment had been employed. Then again, the usage of a "slit" used to describe a hole helps us identify a type of thinking being used along with the fact that two slits reeks of being a projected image of a two-eyed human. If humans had been one-eyed, or three-eyed (etc.), the two-slit model may have been an after-thought. However, because a two-slit configuration was used and we can compare it with the two-eye structure of humans; it necessarily brings to mind the need to make a comparison between it and the development of vision. Necessarily so, the two-slit experiment portrays a rather primitive form of vision requiring features to be added in order to increase what can be seen in electromagnetic behavior (as it is applied, that is).

In addition to taking a look at the development of the idea and acquiring some information on different eye types, different forms of instrumentation is another avenue we can give a quick survey of:

While many instruments use light to illuminate an object, and both monocular as well as binocular models are used, there are other means of doing so such as the usage of electrons in electron microscopes, X-rays for x-ray microscopes and additional devices which use other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, as described in a Britannica article about the telescope. However, let us move on to a short description of the periscope to give as a last example:

(The periscope is an) optical instrument used in land and sea warfare, submarine navigation, and elsewhere to enable an observer to see his surroundings while remaining under cover, behind armor, or submerged.

A periscope includes two mirrors or reflecting prisms to change the direction of the light coming from the scene observed: the first deflects it down through a vertical tube, the second diverts it horizontally so that the scene can be viewed conveniently. Frequently there is a telescopic optical system that provides magnification, gives as wide an arc of vision as possible, and includes a crossline or reticle pattern to establish the line of sight to the object under observation. There may also be devices for estimating the range and course of the target in military applications and for photographing through the periscope.

The simplest type of periscope consists of a tube at the ends of which are two mirrors, parallel to each other but at 45° to the axis of the tube. This device produces no magnification and does not give a crossline image. The arc of vision is limited by the simple geometry of the tube: the longer or narrower the tube, the smaller the field of view. Periscopes of this type were widely used in World War II in tanks and other armoured vehicles as observation devices for the driver, gunner, and commander. When fitted with a small, auxiliary gunsight telescope, the tank periscope can also be used in pointing and firing the guns. By employing tubes of rectangular cross section, wide, horizontal fields of view can be obtained.

What the above information describes is the different ways we can look at the world through various applications that must necessarily contend with our preoccupations. If a person is focused on looking at fingerprints, a small magnifying glass will be directed along this course of interest. The same goes for the usage of a scope when hunting game, binoculars for bird watching, goggles for welding, sunglasses for brightness protection, etc... If we discover wave and particle properties amongst electromagnetic radiation and have a primary two-patterned mindset, the search for a third entity may not encourage a researcher to rethink the dual-slit experiment. And those whose minds may be experiencing a (let's presume) unrecognized stage of cognitive development focused on a pattern-of-three perspective of organizing the world, may be inclined to suggest there is the need for a new, a third theory to unify the many patterns-of-two which appear to exist as a regular phenomena amongst questions regarding atomic-related phenomena. When there are many who are accustomed to supporting a two-patterned referencing of material, the sheer numbers of adherents makes an attempt to suggest the existence of a third idea, appear to be rather difficult. In other words, there's a lot of people one has to battle against... particularly those who may themselves have though to do so and came around to accepting the position of the opposition.

While some are quick to accept the simplicity of the double-slit experiment as a straight forward way of addressing the question of whether electromagnetic radiation is a wave or particle, it may also unknowingly be designed to provide for two separate results, like an eye that has been evolved to fulfill the survival requirements of a given life form. In a sense, the double-slit experiment is in fact a model of a primitive eye that has the capability of "perceiving" a given reality. And lots of people are satisfied with the results and make use of them... only that it does provide the means of perceiving that which is being sought for... a theory which will explain the wave/particle, light/matter, electricity/magnetism) ensemble of dualities, or viewed as "Space and Matter" (related to Relativity), and "Matter and Energy" (related to Quantum Mechanics). However, such dualities may be as simple-minded as the story of the Lilliputians' in Gulliver's Travels, where there are serious strifes and contentions... including war with only relative peace; all because of a difference in perspective of which side of an egg to break open. One country prefers to crack open an egg at the big end and another country at the little end, with neither willing to compromise and crack it open in the middle. Like the Lilliputians', physicists, and other knowledgeable people can be quite obstinate in their beliefs.

In youth, some youngsters, including the author of this present page in the Peace series, engaged in the practice of using the tin-cans-and-string communications device as described in some older accounts of activities children could play in. However, as was quickly discovered, a paper cup provided a better vibrating membrane... along with the realization that the length of the string interfered with how taut it could be pulled in order to facilitate the vibration between speakers. Whereas some children had tried the experiment with tin cans and found it not to work as they expected, and did not try alternative types of "phones"; this writer wanted to extend the practice into a much larger communications system by using interconnecting junctions between several trees and a garage which was used as the point of switching calls between the various points. The double-slit experiment of Thomas Young and others who replicated his results, were involved in making a crude communications device. However, unlike the evolution of the simple vibrating membrane of Alexander Graham Bell and others in the initial stages of developing a communications system that now uses electronic components to enhance vibrations (like the nerves involved in hearing due to a vibrating eardrum membrane); the double-slit experiment, as a type of "communication's device" between the species called electromagnetic radiation whose "conversation" with humans requires a bit of understanding the language involved... remains at a very primitive stage of development. It's like trying to carry on a deep conversation using flags, a flashing mirror, or Braille—without having first established a cipher method of decoding what may or may not be a script. Imagine being on a battle field and not knowing what the meaning of a white flag represents. Or what ever no previous understanding between Paul Revere and his compatriots had been established to indicate what the usage of one or two lanterns hung in Boston's Old North Church steeple signified according to the route the British were coming to Boston? (One if by land two if by sea.) Then again, what if both communicators are experts (physicists are practicing experts and electromagnetic waves can be thought of as being expert at the "language" it uses... even if it has metaphors), yet do not really comprehend the other's jargon? For example, does electromagnetic radiation understand human language and mathematical symbolism? Is this the language it communicates in? Is this the appropriate language needed to comprehend what is being said? How much understanding is lost in the translations?

What if you are someone who lived in the past when there were either no street lights and vehicles had to have someone wave a flag in front of it in order to prevent an accident with pedestrians, or that the development of street lights used two colors signaled by alternating flags; and then you were expected to orient yourself in the future where the speed of vehicles had increased substantially and street lights used three colors but no flags? If you are unaccustomed to a three-color system you may not be able to correctly interpret the signaling system involving multiple signals, many more vehicles, and the speed was magnified many times the 12 mile per hour top speed of your day. This is much the same situation we have in trying to interpret atomic behavior. The quantity (quantum), speed and direction have a set of laws we are trying to piece together like the blind men describing different parts of an elephant:

American poet John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) based this poem, "The Blind Men and the Elephant", on a fable that was told in India many years ago. It is a good warning about how our sensory perceptions can lead to misinterpretations... And how people can see the same thing in a completely different way...

A threes reality

The Double-slit experiment is like taking a walk with squinty-eyed Mr. Magoo whose course is much like Don Quixote mixed with an eccentric chimera. It's representations are a Schrödinger's cat whose vocalizations are being interpreted as a crying baby barking like a dog howling at the moon while it echoes in a tunnel connected to a sewer attached to household drains that are blowing bubbles that waft out a window onto the end of a pipe being smoked by a porch swing philosopher who exclaims Eureka! after sitting on the safety pin his wife lost while using a (single) pair of scissors and pair of needles to knit a pair of mittens, a pair of socks, a (single) pair of long johns, a (single) pair of underwear while sipping pear and apple juice before pre-paring to make supper.

And yet, all the instances of "pair" are overlooked even though they are part of an unrecognized routine in thinking. The presence of the "two" formula is taken for granted and imposes itself on behavioral routines so much so that it requires a different type of perception to perceive a three formula; such as being on the third planet, a triplet DNA code, three large atomic particles, etc... A "two" impression can ingratiate itself into thinking because of its prominent display in day to day activities. Mentioning the presence of a "two" is readily understood, but not mentioning a three... unless one uses a different type of perceptual orientation. If using a "two" formula (or experiment) which provides material to go along with a two-based rationale, there will be an inclination to accept it as a definitive methodological expression.

If one wants to know if electromagnetic radiation is a wave or particle, what better way to decide a two-patterned question than with a two-slit experiment! Yet even if we were to use less or more slits, a mind that is unknowingly predisposed to categorize, analyze and make deductions using a two-patterned formula; will necessarily be inclined in the same direction. There's no logic behind having someone knit one, three or more gloves... and yet there is no logic in describing pants, underwear, scissors or one's nose with the word "pair". We don't say a pair of shirts or a pair of claws for a claw hammer, but we do say a pair of glasses, pair of binoculars, pair of pliers and pair of tweezers. Is reality based on a structure of duality, or some people only think it does because they haven't taken the time to catalog the presence of other numerically itemizable ideas into their own respective groups?

The electromagnetic spectrum is a type of communication system using different wavelengths as we might use fiberoptics. Interestingly, the sheathing used might be of a three-layered kind and can be spliced. However nerves in the human body may not be able to regenerate correctly because they often compose both sensory and motor communications which are too complicated to duplicate by current evolutionary standards of regenerative capability. With respect to three other types of communications systems in the body, the capillaries have one covering and are just large enough to permit blood cells to pass one-by-one, while both the veins and arteries have three linings called the tunica adventia (outer membrane/coat/sheath)- tunica media (middle membrane/coat/sheath)- tunica intima (inner membrane/coat/sheath)... something like a three-piece suit one might suggest... with additional sub-layers (underwear).

In describing the electromagnetic spectrum as a type of communications "expression" or language, and the double-slit experiment as a crude type of communications device attempting to decode the message(s), it is not known whether there is an existing model of some other application (perhaps not related to anything typically described as communication), that can serve as an "upgrade" to the double-slit configuration. The double-slit experiment may be equivalent to a primitive lasso type of snare, with the ability of catching anything left up to chance, patience, luck or some presumed "skill" in a territory where application of the purported ability has a high probability of gaining something desired. In other words, in a field full of game, one's ability to catch something is exponentially increased.

If you put a colored filter in front of a white light, you see colored light. People on Earth who can distinguish the color blue, see a blue sky. Before an earthquake occurs, the sensitivity of some animals may react to the initial murmuring's, though humans don't generally sense anything. In other words, the birds hear and understand some unrecognized expression of that which precedes the voice of an earthquake that humans detect. For geologic events which occurred centuries ago, there may be remnants of the events in geologic formations, like a sort of initials carved out on a tree or park bench that have not been removed. In such an instance, the Earth is a recording, though the recording may have been scratched from further handling over additional centuries. The earth acted as the speaker, the conduit of transmission, and the recorder whose only medium was its own skin... like somebody writing a phone number on their body because they don't have anything else to write on.

Radio waves being received from deep space are said to be a transmission of events which occur millions of years ago. Unless acted on by some obstruction and distances do not have a deteriorating effect, what we "hear" is an actual recording... though we don't know the actual language it is spoken in. We simply make educated guesses. And though we would like to think that electromagnetic radiation is pristine from a light source such as the Sun, we realize that the Earth's atmosphere can have an effect on the transmission. In other words, what we see is not exactly what is being transmitted. Solar emissions can be lower or high with a certain regularity affecting Earth, so long as the conditions on Earth remain stable. However, we are well aware of the destructive effects solar flares can have, and can humorously be interpreted to be analogous to the occasional flame up seen on a barbecue when a bit of grease has slipped through the grating to the flames. God must have been cooking up some good food to cause such an eyebrow-singeing moment.

As mentioned on the previous page, the double-slit experiment is static... that is, non-moving. It requires movement from other sources such as that from a light source giving off electromagnetic radiation in order to produce a recordable event. If electromagnetic radiation stayed in one place, that is— in very close proximity to its source, it would not have been able to shine through the slits and make a dark/light record of the event like geologic lines of stratification, just like an image of the Electromagnetic spectrum is a stratification, even if this is not the language typically used to describe, and may not be easily recognized as such unless a model of geologic stratification is placed next to it, since the minds of some readers may not carry one image over onto another subject in order to make a comparison. Likewise, some may not try to consider the possibility of existing life forms existing (or having existed) in the different layers, unless one ventures deeper into the stratification lines and want to image the presence of particles (etc.) and particle environments beneath the substratum of electrons (etc.) such as three quarks, three anti-quarks, etc...

Electromagnetic spectrum The geologic scale

Whereas the Electromagnetic radiation scale may well hold untold realizations may be of no value for humanity under the present planetary conditions or even biological structure. Whereas we have made nuclear bombs, played with nuclear power plants for electricity and locomotion as well found applications in medicine and some other fields; in retrospect we have done very little with the knowledge of nuclear processes. It is not used by most people beyond the typical human uses characteristic of the human life form. Even if we did identify the Grand Unified theory, it may have no usage other than as a feather to stick into our already arrogant cap. However, be this as it may, considering that what we find may indeed reveal an altogether new pathway for humanity to lead away from the current war/peace recycling century after century; we continue to churn out different philosophies which may assist us in foraging new trails from where we are, or help us to retrace past steps in order to see where we may or may not have veered off course... such as in re-examining the double-slit idea within the parameter of analyzing the Peace/War (conflict) duality. An examination of one or multiple other dual models may help us to climb out of our ideological pits by providing a stepping stone, onto the brim of a new territory, like cereal overflowing a bowl because we put too much milk in it.

While some bits of the cereal in this Peace series may be a bit too soggy for some to stomach, others may find it imaginatively refreshing such as suggesting that the Peace/War (conflict) dichotomy may be the effect of humanity being exposed too long to a particular spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. Like too much such can give one a tan or sunburn, unseen radiation can have effects which, over long periods of exposure, may cause alterations in physiology that effect mentality and no one would be aware of it because it would be incorporated into our life-style rationales. One would have to "do as the Romans do" or else find themselves ostracized because of observable differences which might not be allowed do to some generalized "live and let live" philosophy that took on another form by being expressed as "different strokes for different folks", in some social circles a few decades past.
